Chiropractic and infertility
Infertility is becoming more and more common in today’s world. In 1985 there were 40 reproductive clinics– today there are 440. Couples are paying $6000-$10,000 per round for medical fertility treatments and the list of drugs is every growing (Bravelle, Cetrotide, Clomid, Crinone, Dostinex, Factrel, Fertinex, Follistim, Ganirelex Acetate Gonal-F, Humegon, Lupron, Lutrepulse, Menopur, Metrodin, Novarel , Ovidrel, Parlodel, Pergonal, Pregnyl, Profasi, Prometrium, Repronex, Serophene, Zoladex). Those statistics mean two things: 1) Doctors don’t understand how to prevent infertility and 2) they are perfectly content treating the symptoms of a problem they don’t understand (and charging large sums of money). As a chiropractor, I am wired to always ask the question: “Why?” I want to get to the root cause behind the symptoms to therefore promote healing. Infertility is a symptom of a deeper rooted problem. While I don’t claim to know everything about fertility, I do take an angle that most doctors never will. Instead of just looking at one specific part of the body, such as hormone balance, I look at how the body is functioning as a whole-both guy and girl. The only way to gain insight on the whole body is to analyze the system running the show-the nervous system. For starters, this is what you need to know: The brain is the master computer, the spinal cord is the communication highway, and there are nerves exiting from the highway attached to the every single muscle, organ, tissue, and gland. The brain processes approximately 50,000 to 60,000 thoughts every single day, but most of them you are not consciously unaware of. That is because your brain is constantly collecting information from its environment (via our ears, eyes, nose, skin, etc) and making minute changes, or adaptations, to ensure your survival. For example, if you hear a loud gunshot more than likely you will instinctively duck. So, if the brain can accurately sense the environment, then the body will be able to respond and adapt correctly. What if, however, the brain receives incomplete or inaccurate information? The body, in turn, will not respond appropriately and appear dysfunctional. Logically, the next question to ask is: “Why would the brain receive incomplete or inaccurate information?” Here is the answer: there is interference somewhere in the main communication pathway, or the spinal cord. The spine is responsible for 60% of all sensory input to the brain via its mechanoreceptors. When the 24 vertebra move properly, they trigger these specialized receptors to stimulate the brain. If any one of the vertebra are stuck, or moving through improper movement patterns, interference develops in the system and distorts the messages going to and from the brain. Could this be the cause of hormonal imbalances? Through specific chiropractic adjustments, I am able to improve communication, and therefore your brains perception of the environment. This means the can properly balance hormones and any other poorly functioning body part. As the result of chiropractic care, thousands of ladies are “spontaneously” becoming fertile and having healthy, happy babies. So, before spending the tens of thousands of dollars on treating the symptoms of infertility find a chiropractor who will find the true cause lurking behind the symptoms.
